What is Kambo?

Kambo is derived from the secretion from a frog, the Phyllomedusa Bicolor frog, who lives in the Amazon region. The secretion of this frog is pretty remarkable. It contains some bioactive peptides that provide some incredible benefits for the physical body but also for the mind.

Kambo has been studied by Vittorio Erspamer, a reputable Italian Pharmacologist who was nominated twice for a Nobel Prize and he concluded that Kambo is a “remarkable chemical blend with potential medical applications unparalleled by any other amphibian.”

Even though Kambo isn’t recognized as a “medicine”, countless people have reported feeling incredible benefits from receiving Kambo. From people suffering from autoimmune disorders to people struggling with anxiety, depression or PTSD. 

Kambo doesn’t contain any addictive properties even though it contains some analgesic properties 40 times more potent than morphine.

  • When you arrive, we will take some time to chat about you and to set an intention for your ceremony. We will go over the different steps and I will answer any questions that you may have.

    Then, we will start the ceremony by creating what we call “gates” on the skin, usually 3 to 5 gates. These gates are created by very superficial burns to the skin. They are small and round and only take the first layer of the skin, the epidermis. 

    When the medicine is applied onto those gates, the effects of the medicine are usually felt pretty fast and usually last 20-25 minutes.. 

    It usually starts by feeling a warm flush sensation throughout the body and feeling like the heartbeat is going pretty fast. Some people will also feel some numbness in their ears, lips and tongue and those can last between 3 to 5 minutes. 

    After this first phase starts a phase very similar to what people feel when they have the flu: weakness, shivers and nausea. Some individuals will feel the urge to purge during this phase but it is important to note that purging isn’t necessary to receive all the benefits from Kambo. If a purge happens, people usually report feeling immediately better and even entering a meditation state. 

    After 20 minutes, the Kambo is removed from the gates. People report feeling back to themselves 30 to 45 minutes after and the therapeutic benefits of Kambo manifest in the ensuing hours and days after the ceremony. Some individuals report feeling the positive effect of Kambo weeks and even months after their experience sitting with this medicine.

    After the Kambo dots are removed, we will take some time to chat about your experience and I will provide a light snack for you.
